Symeres is thrilled to announce that as of January 1, 2024, our sr. Vice President Dr. Luc van Hijfte has taken the helm as the President of the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (EFMC). This appointment marks a significant milestone for both EFMC and the field it represents, as Luc brings a wealth of experience and a visionary approach to the position. After a year of being President Elect, Luc succeeds Prof. Rui Moreira of the University of Lisbon, who served as EFMC president in 2023.
With an illustrious career in medicinal chemistry, Luc has consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing the frontiers of pharmaceutical science. His expertise encompasses a broad spectrum, from drug discovery and development to chemical biology, making him an ideal candidate to lead EFMC in an era of unprecedented challenges and opportunities.
As President, Luc van Hijfte is poised to guide EFMC in fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the medicinal chemistry and chemical biology community across Europe, and even beyond with his colleagues and dear friends in Asia and United States. His strategic vision aligns with the federation’s mission to promote interdisciplinary research, facilitate knowledge exchange, and drive the translation of scientific discoveries into tangible benefits for patients.
Under his leadership, EFMC is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing pressing global health issues, supporting groundbreaking research initiatives, and nurturing the next generation of scientists. The Executive Committee furthermore consists of Prof. Gianluca Sbardella, Prof. Beatriz De Pascual-Teresa, Prof. Christa Mueller, Dr. Martin Missbach, and Dr. Tilly Bingham.
